Piper's Serenade with the Locusts
I was working in the yard one evening last August, and darkness was coming on. Piper, my light Golden Retriever, was doing her thing, following me wherever I went. It was getting too dark to do much work, so I made a glass of iced tea, started a small fire in the fire pit, and pulled up my favorite lawn chair. Piper lay on the grass at my feet like she usually does. It didn't take long before the song of the locusts filled the air. I looked down at Piper and slowly smiled. Then I pulled out my phone, opened my app, and began to type:
Piper's Serenade with the Locusts
In the golden embrace of a summer's day,
Amidst the meadows where wildflowers sway,
A whisper carried on the gentle breeze,
Announced a symphony that brought me ease.
A distant hum, both enchanting and bold,
A melody that nature's heart did hold,
I stood in awe, with curious delight,
As the first time I heard a locust take flight.
Beside me, my loyal golden friend, Piper,
With fur of gold, a heart that's ever brighter,
She pranced and played, with a wagging tail,
A companion true, her presence never stale.
Together we listened to nature's grand tune,
As the locusts sang beneath the sunlit moon,
Piper's ears perked up, attentive and keen,
Captivated by the harmonies unseen.
Her paws danced gently upon the green grass,
In sync with the locusts' melodic mass,
A canine conductor, full of bliss and glee,
Her spirit entwined with nature's symphony.
With each joyful bark, a chorus did rise,
Blending with the locusts' harmonious cries,
A harmony of life, a duet so grand,
Between the buzzing wings and Piper's band.
In the symphony of this enchanting day,
Nature and Piper led my heart astray,
A serenade of love, in perfect accord,
As Piper and locusts struck a chord.
So, in this poem, their spirits shall intertwine,
The locusts' song and Piper's love so fine,
Forever etched, a memory to savor,
Of golden moments and nature's sweet flavor.
