Joshua’s Guiding Hand: A Heartwarming Camping Memory
Joshua’s Guiding Hand: A Heartwarming Camping Memory
Memories are powerful, and one that holds a special place in my heart is about my son Joshua. As a bilateral bk amputee, I have very few limitations, but one challenge is my balance in total darkness and large crowds where I can't see the ground. My wife and kids understand this, and they always offer their support whenever needed.
One time, Josh and I went on a camping trip with his Boy Scout troop. It was a jamboree with numerous activities, and at the end, there was a huge cookout. As I made our way back to the campground, I found myself in the middle of a crowd, unable to see the ground and feeling my balance slipping away. I didn't know anyone around me well enough to hold onto them, but then out of nowhere, I felt someone grab my hand—it was Joshua!
He said, "I gotcha Dad!" and held my hand tightly as we walked through the crowd. His presence brought an immediate sense of comfort and security. When the crowd dispersed enough, he asked if I was okay, and with a smile, I assured him that I was. Then, like the independent young man he was, he rejoined his friends.
That moment filled my heart with pride and love for my son. It wasn't just about physical support; it was the understanding, care, and thoughtfulness he showed me. Over the years, Joshua and I created countless cherished memories, but this one stands out as my absolute favorite, a testament to the incredible bond we share.
